Market Minute: Bounty of Summer!

Farmers Market

I know it’s really summer when the Vandenbroek Family Farm wagon pops up at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market. It signals the bounty of the summer harvest and the beautiful earthy scent of freshness that comes with it.

The wagon brings an awesomeness to the market that just can’t be denied. It’s like a bugle playing

Reveille, the French word for “wake up”. And wake up it does this week with tomatoes. Yes, another

sure sign of summer, piles of luscious red jewels of the season. There’s nothing like a sun ripened local

tomato, picked just the day before – I remember eating tomatoes like apples back in the day when

summer was the only time you could get a tomato.

And raspberries are here! Both Warner Orchards and Vandenbroek Family Farm will bring these berries

that are the successor of the strawberry season. Enjoy them to the fullest while they last.

Did I mention ice cream? If you missed it last week the Dover Dairy Bar will be serving up Chapman’s ice cream made in Ontario from 100% Ontario dairy.

Come to the Aberfoyle Farmer’s Market open every Saturday until the end of October from 8am to 1pm

at the Optimist Recreation Centre on Brock Road in Aberfoyle.
