Market Minute – Get Ready for Thanksgiving!

x
Start prepping for Thanksgiving at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market this weekend. I know it’s just the first

few days of October but you can never be too prepared for the holiday feast!

I happened to be at Global Studios today and there was a chef waiting to go onset to talk about the

turkey with all the trimmings. There it all was, dinner laid out on a table, the enticing aroma of

Thanksgiving wafting through the studio at 8:00 in the morning. I looked at my phone and saw the date

– October 1 – and thought, why not prep ahead, and save myself the last minute craziness of feeding the

hungry masses? i.e. my family!

I’ll make it easy on myself and order a Stuffing Kit. They do the shopping for me! Pre-order a Turkey

Stuffing kit for only $12.00 – it will include all the fresh ingredients and a mouth-watering recipe that will

have the family diving for the last spoonful. What’s Thanksgiving without a Hail Mary pass? You can feel

good about it too as $4.00 of each kit will be donated to the Guelph Food Bank. The kits will be ready for

pick-up Thanksgiving weekend. Now that was easy.

I also can make the soup ahead of time and freeze it. Butternut squash soup made with apples. An old

family recipe – well not my family – Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa’s family. So I’ll be headed over to

the Vandenbroek Farm wagon of course for the vibrant gourds and while I’m there I will tempt myself

to pick up some brussel sprouts. The market will be posting a recipe for these tasty little cabbage patch

veggies on Facebook click here and on

their website click here

The community group this week is a great cause – one close to my animal lover’s heart – Tiny Paws Dog

Rescue. Formed in February 2007, Tiny Paws Dog Rescue assists small pure and mixed breed dogs

(weighing 20 pounds and under) in need. They greatly appreciate donations of new and gently used dog

related items such as collars, leashes, training pads, training treats, book on dogs (health, training and

care)

Bring the colours of autumn into your home because The Flowersmiths are there this weekend. And

speaking of colour have you seen Sweet Temptations beautifully decorated cupcakes? Not only are they

gorgeous and fun, they are…well…how do you describe the most amazingly delicious fluffy cupcakes?

One word – YUM.

Get your gobble gobble on and come down to the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market! Open every Saturday until

the end of October from 8am to 1pm at the Optimist Recreation Centre on Brock Road in Aberfoyle. See

you at the market!
