Pickleball – The Fastest Growing Sport in North America Coming to Puslinch

puslinch pickleball
Pickleball, a wildly popular game sweeping the continent, is a racquet sport that combines elements of
badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The game was born on Bainbridge Island, Washington in 1965. It
came about from a desire to play badminton, but the players had no shuttlecock. With a little
imagination they found a Wiffle ball, lowered the badminton net, and made paddles from plywood
found in a shed. And voila – Pickleball!

But where does that odd name come from? The hodgepodge of the game reminded the wife of one of
the players of a Pickle Boat, which refers to the last boat to return with its catch. Supposedly the crew were oarsmen who were chosen from the leftovers of other boats. Mystery solved.

The beauty of this sport is that any age can play it. So no matter how young or wise you are, come watch
and/or participate in a Pickleball demonstration for free at the Optimist Recreation Centre Gymnasium
November 30, December 2 and December 4, each date from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
See you there
Pickleball enthusiasts!
