A gloom is cast over the neighbourhood, owing to the death of Mr. Edward Phelan on Tuesday. He was most highly respected and a very popular young man. Loving friends have the sympathy of all in their sore bereavement. The funeral takes place from the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. John Mulrooney on Thursday morning.
The roads are in such a wretched condition this week, that our genial mail carrier, Mr. John Kennedy, found it difficult to make all his appointments and consequently war news has to wait for a day or two.
The whole neighbourhood assembled at the home of Dr. Galbraith and Mrs. Galbraith to honour their son, Harley, who has enlisted. A very pleasant evening was spent by all, so pleasant indeed, that it was with difficulty those present could tear themselves away. Music lovers enjoyed a rare treat, so many good musicians being present.
Mr. Alfred Crane’s sale was well attended on Tuesday and was quite successful. Mr. Jones of Guelph has bought the farm and moves there in April.
