Freezing Rain Likely To Develop On Monday

ice storm

So far I have not heard anything about a bad ice storm developing but I think it prudent to let everyone know there may be some freezing rain on Monday. Be sure to check your emergency supplies, generators etc. so you are ready if bad weather develops.

Environment Canada has issued the following Special Weather Statement for our area:

Freezing rain likely developing on Monday.

A deepening Colorado low is forecast to cross the lower Great Lakes for the start of the work week. Some inconsequential drizzle or light flurries may be present during the Monday morning commute. A few areas north from the Oak Ridges Moraine into the Dundalk Highlands may also have some freezing drizzle.

However, a more significant freezing rain threat is becoming increasingly likely during the day Monday. Colder easterly winds are expected to intensify, causing temperatures to dip to near or just below the zero degree mark. As a result, incoming precipitation from the low will likely fall as freezing rain, especially Monday afternoon and potentially into the evening. The Monday evening commute may be significantly impacted by icy roads.

Freezing rain warnings will likely be issued as the event approaches.
