#jerseysforhumboldt

It is hard enough to tell your child about a loved one who has passed away and help them make sense of it. Imagine a child hearing via social media/radio or a friend about fourteen people killed on their way to a hockey tournament on a bus.

Like many places across the country (world) #jerseysforhumboldt has and continues to be a trending topic. Whispers in the washroom, conversations in the cloakroom and questions being asked in the classroom. Why did the boys not live with their parents? Who told their mom and dad that they died? Why did the bus and truck hit each other? These were some of the questions fielded this past week. Active listening and talking were evident everywhere. Sometimes the answer was I don’t know. Children grappled with these answers especially since they ride a bus everyday to school. Also several girls and boys that attend Aberfoyle School play hockey in a variety of leagues.

For many children, caring for others is innate so it did not surprise me that on Thursday, April 12th they joined with thousands of others to show their support by wearing a jersey.
