Market Minute: Peaches and Corn!

peaches
I love it when the corn season finally arrives. We are in the thick of summer and it’s a smorgasbord of

local and fresh food at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market, often picked just the day before. It brings back

memories of summers spent with my Grandparents at the cottage. I always knew how close I was

getting to the first day of school by the fruits and vegetables my Omi would put on my plate.

This week the Vandenbroek Family Farm wagon will cast a buttery yellow glow with piles of corn –

sweet and delicious. And if its fruit you are craving Warner Orchards will have the first peaches,

nectarines, apricots and prunes of the season. I just read a blog about fresh apricots and 8 good reasons

to eat them, besides being absolutely yummy, they are an anti-inflammatory fruit. Apricots reduce pain

from gout and arthritis. And also a guilt free fruit at approximately 17 calories a piece. I’m in!

New at the market this week is Aberfoyle’s own Hitchhiker Lemonade. I have tasted all six flavours

made with all natural ingredients and they are fresh and lively and simply the best lemonade I have ever

tasted. This is a do not miss at the market this week. And if you can’t decide on a flavour – buy all six!

Gather up all the blunt objects because Sharp My Knife will be back to sharpen your knives, scissors and

tools.

Another personal favourite is Stamp and Tea Studio bringing their beautiful handcrafted cards and tags.

Blair will have something for everyone, so stock up (she has bulk pricing) and watch the happy smiles

when your loved ones open their envelopes.

After the game be sure to come and get your Soccer Snack! This week it’s mini cupcakes from Sweet Temptations.

And before you walk out the door with all your goodies and more from the market, treat yourself and

the kids to Dover Dairy Bar ice cream by Chapman’s, made in Ontario from 100% Ontario dairy.

Come to the Aberfoyle Farmer’s Market open every Saturday until the end of October from 8am to 1pm

at the Optimist Recreation Centre on Brock Road in Aberfoyle.
