Kettle lakes like Puslinch Lake are threatened ecosystems

I was interested to read in your July 25 edition of the latest efforts to dredge and “save” Puslinch Lake. I know Puslinch Lake well.

As a child in the early 1960s, my family would frequently visit Barber’s Beach for picnics and swimming.

The problems of aquatic plant overgrowth, contaminated lake water, and a shallow bottom of ooze that made swimming difficult were issues then and are issues that have not gone away in the 50 years or more since then, nor will they go away. If anything, such problems will persist unless there are major changes to what goes on in and around the lake…
