Ellis Road mansion burns to the ground, family of 14 escape

A family of 14 is staying with family and friends in Cambridge following an early Saturday (Oct. 1) morning fire that saw their Ellis Road mansion burn to the ground.

The fire broke out about 2:30 a.m. in the basement utility room of the large, multi-storey home about a kilometer east of Townline Road in Puslinch.

At least three generations lived in the home, said Puslinch Fire Department Deputy Chief Luis Gomes, who was the first firefighter to arrive.

“I saw a fully involved fire in the basement, first floor and second floor out here in the front, right corner,” he said. “(Fire) was coming out of the windows. It was crazy.” …
