Chief Fire Prevention Officer (Part-time)

The Township of Puslinch is a vibrant and growing rural community located in the heart of South Western Ontario, immediately south of the City of Guelph. It is one of seven lower-tier municipalities in the County of Wellington. The population of the Township of Puslinch is 7,029.

The Township has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic and dynamic leader to fill the position of Chief Fire Prevention Officer. The Fire and Rescue Services is comprised of one (1) station with 42 dedicated volunteer/part time fire department staff.

The major responsibilities include:

  • Inspect and conduct fire code inspections on all types of new and existing buildings
  • Review and evaluate building plans and specifications for development proposals and applications
  • Investigate and enforce compliance with the fire By-laws, codes, regulations and standard.
  • Follow up on investigations within established standards, issues tickets, summons and lay charges in accordance with the Provincial Offences Act.
  • Conduct Fire Investigations

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Technology and Fire Prevention
  • Minimum 3 years related experience
  • Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Certification, is an asset
  • Knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code and related legislation and by-laws
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills and customer service skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to handle matters of a confidential or politically sensitive nature, and to maintain confidentiality
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database applications
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing

2016 Step One Hourly Rate is $26.61 (16 hours/week). Public Fire and Life Safety Educator (Part-time)

The Township has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic and dynamic leader to fill the position of Public Fire and Life Safety Educator. The Fire and Rescue Services is comprised of one (1) station with 42 dedicated volunteer/part time fire department staff.

The major responsibilities include:

  • Safe and efficient co-ordination, creation, direction, planning, delivery and support of all fire department public education functions and programs.
  • Inspect and conduct fire code inspections on all types of new and existing buildings
  • Investigate and enforce compliance with the fire By-laws, codes, regulations and standards
  • Prepare and present public information sessions to promote fire safety

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Technology and Fire Prevention
  • Possess or willing to work towards NFPA 1035 Public Fire and Life Safety Educator and NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector certification.
  • Minimum 3 years related experience
  • Knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, Fire Prevention and Protection Act and related legislation and by-laws
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills and customer service skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to handle matters of a confidential or politically sensitive nature, and to maintain confidentiality
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database applications
  • Must have a valid class DZ license with satisfactory driving record
