A Celebration Of Life: Sister Virginia Hanlon

HANLON, Sister Virginia

The Sisters of Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, (Hamilton) are saddened to announce the death of Sister Virginia Hanlon at St. Joseph’s Convent on December 26, 2018 in the 73rd year as a Sister of St. Joseph.

She was born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, the daughter of the late James Raymond Hanlon and Mary Katharine Mahon. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Rita Hanlon. She will be remembered and missed by her sisters, Katharine Meechan, Sister Patricia Hanlon CSJ and by her nieces, nephews and their families, and by the members of her religious community, the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Sister Virginia was a graduate of the St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Hamilton, class of 1945. Sister held a degree in B.Sc.N., and Diploma in Hospital Administration. She served with dedication in the healthcare ministry in Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph, and Dundas for nearly 50 years as a director of Schools of Nursing, as a Hospital Administrator and Pastoral Care worker. Sister was actively involved in the Alumni Association of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Hamilton.

Sister Virginia’s caring, professionalism was nurtured by her deep prayer life and her sense of humour. She served her Congregation as a member of the Leadership team and in more recent years has been an active member of the Hamilton convent, involved in prayer ministry and has maintained ties with many of her former nursing students.

The sisters of St. Joseph will welcome family and friends at St. Joseph’s Convent , Hamilton on Wednesday, January 2nd from 2:30- 4 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Convent, Hamilton. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, for the works of the Community would be appreciated.
