Luella Logan Scholarship/Award

Mr. Robert Logan, a County of Wellington resident, has made a very generous donation to the County to set up a scholarship fund to encourage young women in politics and to set up an award to honour retired women politicians.

This donation has been made in recognition of this wife Luella “Lou” Logan who was the first woman councillor to sit on Wellington County and who recently passed away in her 88th year on December 2, 2017. Ms. Logan obtained her seat on Wellington County Council after being elected Deputy Reeve of Palmerston in 1973 and then Reeve in 1975, until she retired in 1978. She was first elected to Palmerston Council in 1966 and succeeded at the polls in five consecutive elections in ten years.

The Luella Logan Scholarship will grant $1500 annually to a young woman pursuing post-secondary studies in political science, public administration, or a related undergraduate or graduate degree at a Canadian college or university. Selection of the recipient will be based on academic excellence and demonstration of leadership and interest in local government.

The annual Luella Logan Award will be presented to a retired female politician who has shown outstanding service in local politics with the County of Wellington, or one of the County’s member municipalities. The recipients will receive a donation of $1500 to allocate to the charity of her choice.
