Wellington County Offering Home Delivery For User Pay Garbage Bags

Wellington County

The County of Wellington has implemented proactive measures to limit
transmission of the COVID-19 virus. As a result, all County Waste Facilities have been closed to the
public until further notice. All County of Wellington residents are asked to use the curbside collection
services for their residential waste needs at this time. Garbage must be placed in a County-issued
User Pay garbage bag.

User Pay garbage bags are available through many local retailers including: grocery stores, pharmacies,
and hardware stores. These businesses remain open as they are an essential service. The County is also
offering a temporary home delivery service for User Pay garbage bags. To access this temporary home
delivery service, an online ordering and payment process is available at www.wellington.ca/wasteinfo.
Residents unable to access this service online can call 519.837.2601 and arrangements will be made.

“We have heard from residents who are self-isolating that they are finding it challenging to get User Pay garbage bags,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “The County is pleased to be able to offer this temporary
solution to assist our most vulnerable citizens with their waste disposal needs.”

The User Pay system provides residents with a tool to reduce their waste disposal costs by recycling and reducing waste.

“Maintaining user fees for waste in the midst of the County’s COVID-19 response helps limit the amount
of waste that is being placed roadside,” commented Das Soligo, Manager of Solid Waste Services. “Right
now, we’re seeing more household garbage being generated than usual. The County’s curbside waste
collectors are working long hours to collect everyone’s waste, and the User Pay system helps us ensure
this service won’t be compromised.”

Curbside collection will continue to occur on its regularly scheduled day. If you are unsure of your
collection day or require any other information on how to participate in curbside collection, please visit www.wellington.ca/sws or email [email protected].
