OPP To Step Up Patrols On Highway 6 South In Puslinch

OPP
Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continually analyzing their traffic data to understand and address public safety trends. A recent statistical analysis indicates that many property damage motor vehicle collisions continue to occur in specific, pinpointed hotspot locations in the County. Police resources are then better utilized by being directed to these identified hotspots at the right times, focusing on the right issues in an effort to reduce collisions.

Wellington County OPP is taking the proactive step to tell the public that they will focus patrols on Highway 6 south from Highway 401 to Maddaugh Road in Puslinch Township. Officers will be addressing distracted driving, speeding, following too close and those aggressive drivers all of which are seen as the main causal factors in most collision investigations. Visibility coupled with enforcement and education through the Village of Morriston, a designated Community Safety Zone where fines are doubled, is where police hope to influence positive driving behavior.

This focused patrol initiative will run for 11 days from July 7 through to July 17, 2016.

Meanwhile… elsewhere in Puslinch ANOTHER racing charge has been laid:

On July 6, 2016 at approximately 4:02 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) was conducting radar speed enforcement and monitoring traffic on Arkell Road near Farnham Road in Puslinch Township. The officer observed a male driving a 2014 Jeep at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 138 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute.

40-year-old Gregory MAROUSIS has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle (“Racing”) contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on August 17, 2016 to answer to the charge.
