A Celebration Of Life: Helena Oosterveld

It is with great sadness we announce that the Lord took Helena (Lena) Oosterveld, our dearly loved Mother, Oma and Great Oma who passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 28, 2021. She was born on June 22, 1933 in Groningen to Harm and Hendrika Pyper.

Mom is survived by her loving children Etta (Chris); Rick (Nancy), Harry; Ron (Kim) and Ed. She loved and cherished all her grandchildren Miranda (Jeff), Jason (Danielle), Nathan, Anthony (Nicole), Nicole (Mike), Alex (Desire), Julia, Zachary, Michael and Ryan and her great grandchildren Dreya, Elyott, Hank, Charley, Aubrey, Amelia, Alice and our newest member Isla.

She leaves behind her beloved brothers and their wives; Albert (Linda) and Ed (Jane) and many cherished nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Helena is predeceased by her husband Henk, the love of her life; her beloved sisters and brothers in law, Jean and Jerry VanHolst; Joanne and Jake Klimstra and her daughters-in- law, Alison and Anne.

Henk and Helen immigrated to Canada in 1954 right after they were married. Mom came to Canada as a seamstress and pattern designer and created many wedding and bridesmaids gowns, as well as everyday fashions, draperies and other décor. Her legacy is that she will be remembered by all as a loving, friendly person who gave big hugs and liked to connect with people over coffee visits. She welcomed everyone young and old into her home with open arms and a smile and she especially loved the children.

She loved and supported her Church and Christian School Community. She leaves a huge void and will be missed by her family and friends.

No memorial events are currently scheduled, but hope to schedule a memorial service in the Spring.
