OPP Lay 169 Charges In Long Weekend Traffic Safety Initiative

From September 3 to September 6, 2021 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment participated in the Labour Day Long Weekend Traffic Safety Initiative. The focus of the Traffic Safety Initiative was the “Big 4” offences of Speeding/Aggressive Driving, Impaired Driving, Seatbelt Usage and Distracted Driving. These 4 offences are commonly found to be contributing factors in the fatal and personal injury motor vehicle collisions that occur on OPP patrolled roadways.During the course of this Traffic Safety Initiative Wellington OPP officers conducted high visibility patrols on area roadways with a specific focus on both education and enforcement. Officers also conducted a number of R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Spot checks targeting impaired driving. Over the course of the Traffic Safety Initiative local officers laid approximately 169 charges.
