Let’s Play Ball!

baseball

Puslinch Minor ball is excited for the 2023 season to start! Hard to believe that Baseball is just around the corner after this long winter. The winter has been long, but the future superstars that represent Puslinch have been hard at work at The Optimist Recreation Centre for the last three months getting ready for the season. With Old Moriston ball diamond getting a facelift with new lights and working amenities, it makes the upcoming season even more exciting. Even though the registration close date isn’t till April 14th, the push is on to get more local kids involved in the upcoming year.

Puslinch Minor Ball has grown from about 40 players, Pre-Covid, to now over 100 players, Post Covid. This is incredible growth in our local community of softball. With boys and girls representing our community from not just Puslinch but also from surrounding areas, we are seeing something special grow! Puslinch is excited that our TBall and 3 Pitch registration is as strong as always, and expects more numbers to come in over these last few weeks of registration, as we finally welcome in Spring!

Puslinch will be sporting a U9 team playing in The Inter-County Softball Association (ISA) this year. Joining them, the U11 age category is adding a third team to represent Puslinch this year. This is our strongest age group with the vast majority of the kids coming from Puslinch. 3 teams are the most that any of the rural centres have participating. This age group has really catapulted Puslinch Minor Ball these past couple years. And this group has inspired even older players to join the league this year, as we welcome in a U13 team, which will also play in the ISA. We are still trying to form a U15 team, so kids born in 2007, 2008 and 2009 are encouraged to let us know of any interest immediately.

Puslinch Minor Ball has been a huge part of the community’s history for years. To see the growth and success coming back, makes the community proud and excited for the upcoming 2023 year. A gigantic, thank you needs to go out to all the coaches, volunteers, players, umpires, and board members of past and present, who have put so much effort and time in to make this all come together. Puslinch Baseball overall has exploded these last couple of years. Just think, a few years ago, there was talk that Old Morriston Ball Diamond would be demolished. Now, there is baseball being played on all four diamonds in Puslinch on all four nights of the week, Monday to Thursday! Can’t imagine if we didn’t have that diamond anymore. Puslinch Minor Ball can be seen playing on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights at Old Morriston Ball Diamond. There are other nights where the teams will be playing in Aberfoyle or at Morriston Meadows.

Rural Softball has been growing again, as these last few years local communities are getting more teams to represent them. Puslinch’s softball teams play in the ISA. The ISA is made up of small rural communities in Wellington, Grey, Halton, and Perth counties that participate. The communities put teams together of any willing participants. And the league is considered as a house league with the main focus for children to learn the sport of softball, participation, sportsmanship, and playing as a team. Any, and all children are welcome to play! We recognize that these are the summer months, and that good weather is in short supply in the wonderful country we live in, so we make sure that families understand that this is house league, and vacation and family time supersede softball.

With the previous being said, we do put together teams to go play in the provincials where tryouts do occur, and the teams go and play against other teams across Ontario. We are looking forward to sending a few teams this year for the first time in a long time to represent Puslinch. We are looking forward to announcing those dates and locations in the near future of where our kids will be off to this year.

Again, registration closes on April 14th, and we are still looking to fill up all age groups. Please feel free to go on our website, www.puslinchsoftball.ca, or you can call, text or email Cameron Tuck at 519-835-1120/ [email protected].

We will also be looking for more umpires this year. We offer the ability to go plug into the umpiring course which Puslinch Minor ball pays for. If you know of anyone who is interested and 14 years of age or older, please pass their name onto us.

We Are Puslinch Minor Ball. Community Proud, Team Focused, & Fun Driven!
